Newly elected leaders can move the city forward

Sunday, November 8, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

Greensboro voters let their wishes be known and now is the time to move forward. I hope the newly elected City Council will work for the good of all of Greensboro and not just the people living in certain parts of town. Hopefully, the new City Council will make decisions based on common and reasoned good sense and will not be overly influenced by activist groups, PACs and the Pulpit Forum.

The citizens of Greensboro owe a great debt for the work of Mike Barber, Mary Rakestraw and Trudy Wade. They were criticized by the left as being divisive and strident because they asked the hard questions about matters that our mayor and some council members wished to ignore and still deny. Will Robbie Perkins ever admit that Mitchell Johnson was a poor choice for city manager or that David Wray was not the culprit he was pictured to be? Going along just to get elected or re-elected is a poor way to serve our citizens.

Congratulations to Mayor-elect Bill Knight and all the elected members of our City Council. You will have a full plate, but I feel you are up to the task at hand.

Charles W. Hodges
Greensboro

Mr. Hodges, in my opinion, Mike Barber, Mary Rakestraw and Trudy Wade have been incompetent political clowns! And I expect Rakestraw and Wade will not change their "acts" on the new Council. And if Bill Knight has common sense, he will seek guidance from Robbie Perkins as he attempts to "govern" the Council. And you, sir, are not very smart since you don't realize that Mitch Johnson was a well-informed, competent City Manager! Seriously.

Dr Suess80, just cant take that butt whoppin like a man can ya? Your people lost on Tuesday, well, Perkins paid enough to vote for him, but that's it, And Mitch "johnny house Johnson" and those whom supported him, stunk up the city worse than a 5 day old dead skunk. And have a nice day!!

I congratulate Mr. Knight and wish him well. I also agree with what Mr. xeno10 says above in regards to the current council. Ms. Rakestraw is a joke and is also very destructive to be on a non partisan board. Mitch Johnson is a fine fellow who fell victim to the trifecta of Rakestraw, Wade and the Rhino Times.
While Knight is getting "on the job training", it will be Robbie Perkins who runs our fair city. My thoughts and prayers go out to Robbie as he shoulders the burden placed upon him. As long as Perkins is the "grown up" on the council, he will be called upon to do the heavy lifting.
