Twenty-seven men is a wonderful start. From July to October, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Greensboro and other local BBBS programs participated in a national campaign to find “100 Men in 100 Days” to be matched with young males in need of positive male role models.
The young males come primarily from single-parent homes headed by mothers and grandmothers. The men (largely college students) responded to the rally call by signing up to serve as mentors in Greensboro.
When the campaign ended, 27 men had been matched with boys and 60 more had started the process to become Big Brothers. I want to congratulate the men who decided to invest in the futures of our youth. The time a young male spends with a positive, caring male can truly change the course of his life.
I also want to challenge your male readers to share their time, energy and knowledge by volunteering to mentor a young male. The campaign has officially ended but the daily challenges our young males face remain.
