Wake, N.C. State roll in exhibitions

WAKE FOREST 88, IUP 57: Al-Farouq Aminu scored 24 points, pulled in 11 rebounds, and had seven assists as Wake Forest cruised to an 88-57 victory against Indiana (Pa.) at Joel Coliseum in the Deacons' only exhibition game of the year.

The Deacons shot 54 percent from the field while holding the Crimson Hawks to 35 percent shooting. Wake outrebounded IUP 48-34.

Senior Chas McFarland came off the bench to notch 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen C.J. Harris and Konner Tucker had six points apiece.

N.C. STATE 84, ST. PAUL'S 42: Junior Tracy Smith had 21 points in 21 minutes of action to lead all scorers in N.C. State's victory over St. Paul's.

Ten of the 6-foot-9 Smith's points came in the first 10 minutes of the second half, when he completely out-sized and out-classed the smaller Division II opponent, which did not have a player taller than 6-foot-4 on its roster.

Freshman Scott Wood had a dazzling debut, making all four of his 3-point shots in the first half to lead all scorers in the opening period with 12 points.

NORTH CAROLINA 105, FRANCIS MARION 64: Freshman Tierra Ruffin-Pratt scored 18 points to lead five Tar Heels in double figures. Ruffin-Pratt added seven rebounds, four steals and three assists for UNC. The Tar Heels scored 23 straight over a five-minute stretch starting at the 11:48 mark of the first half to open up a 30-point lead at 44-14.

Vernerey, a 6-foot-8 Alsace, France native, shot 8-of-10 from the floor, blocked four shots and had six steals.
