Candidate appreciates campaign experience

Saturday, November 7, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

I offer a sincere thank you to the voters of Greensboro who believed in my candidacy and supported me with your votes and endorsements. I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart.

Although I was unsuccessful in getting elected, I believe I raised some significant issues that may be added to the city’s agenda. I know that I learned a great deal about Greensboro’s city government and about its wonderful citizens. Thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to run for this office.

To Dr. Trudy Wade: Congratulations on a good victory. Please continue to serve the citizens of the District 5 and the city, to the best of your considerable ability.

To the other candidates: Congratulations to the winners; my condolences to those who did not win. It has been my distinct honor and joy to get to know you and work with you during our campaigns.

To the news media: Thank you to all of the newspapers for the very excellent coverage you had of all the races. Greensboro area television stations:  Where were you during the election season? We missed having you take part.

If you discover that I have failed to collect a yard sign that I put out, please e-mail me the location at boyett2009@gmail.com and I will collect it immediately.

Thank you, Greensboro,

Arthur S. “Art” Boyett
Greensboro

The writer was a candidate for City Council, District 5.

Dr. Boyett, as you know, sometimes the best candidate doesn't win the "first time." So I hope you will consider a "second time!" (And properly store your campaign signs) Seriously.

Mr. xeno10,
You are so correct. Ms. Wade, who used to be considered a 'moderate' with dedication to public service, has become but a mouthpiece for Mary Rakestraw and the "silly" folks. It is sad because I knew her when she was less a confrontational cartoon and more of a consensus builder. She no longer can build consensus because she is so vitriolic.

This has got to be one of the classiest letters I have seen!
Thanks Art...and like the other poster said, don't throw away those signs!

I agree with the classy comments. If it were a video Art would have opened by standing, holding out his arms and loudly saying, "Thank you Greensboro." Saw him do that at several forms. He's full of energy and seemed to be a very nice guy.
