UNCG forward Tabitha Padgett was named the Southern Conference's co-player of the year and freshman of the year to headline a group of eight Spartans earning league women's soccer honors.
Padgett, midfielders Jen Bronson and Jenn Partenheimer and defender Lauren Lopez were all first-team selections, while forward Kristin Player, defender Cat Barnekow and goalkeeper Kelsey Kearney took second-team distinction. Padgett and midfielder/forward Lauren Hein earned spots on the SoCon all-freshman team.
UNCG has had the SoCon player of the year in three of the last four seasons and the freshman of the year in five of the last seven.
Four Elon players were honored, including Phoenix freshman Claire O'Keefe who became the program's first-ever first-team all-conference selection. Senior forward Molly Calpin earned second-team recognition while O'Keefe, Scarlett Fakhar and Elizabeth Palmer were named to the league's all-freshman team.
VIRGINIA TECH 1, WAKE FOREST 0 (OT): All-ACC freshman midfielder Kelly Conheeney scored off a corner kick a little over six minutes into the first overtime, lifting the fourth-seeded Hokies (14-6) past fifth-seeded Wake Forest (13-5-2) in the quarterfinals of the ACC women's soccer tournament in Cary.
NORTH CAROLINA 3, MARYLAND 0: North Carolina scored a goal in first half and added two in the second to blank sixth-seeded Maryland. The Tar Heels have won 19 of the previous 21 ACC championships.
FLORIDA STATE 2, DUKE 0: Third-ranked Florida State blanked Duke in the ACC women's soccer tournament at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
BOSTON COLLEGE 0, VIRGINIA 0 (BC wins on penalty kicks, 3-2): Second-seeded Boston College outscored seventh-seeded Virginia 3-2 on penalty kicks in the tournament quarterfinals.
HIGH POINT: High Point forward Laura Eldridge was named first-team all-conference in the Big South Conference. She also earned a spot of the league's all-academic team. Teammate Janay Whittaker was named to both the second team and all-freshman team.
GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Greensboro College garnered nine all conference honors presented by the USA South. Leading the way were first-team honorees Tessa Hall and Kelli Viana. Selected to the conference's second team was freshman Cara Wilcox. Goalie Katie Allegro (and two freshmen -- Mary Reinhardt and Meredith Kelly -- made the third team. Picked USAS honorable mention were midfielder Melissa Gallaher and defender Jessica Kile. Freshman Jessica Jameson was tabbed to the USA South all-sportsmanship team.
MEN'S SOCCER
HIGH POINT 2, LIBERTY 1: High Point got a late goal from Karo Okiomah to beat Liberty at Vert Stadium. Senior Matt Tuttle scored the Panthers' other goal. High Point improved to 9-5-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the Big South Conference. High Point awaits the outcome of Coastal Carolina's game against Radford on Saturday to determine which team wins the Big South's regular-season title.
GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Greensboro College earned four all-USA South honors. Andrew Clark (second team), Denis Geoffrey (third team), Ross Solomon (honorable mention) and Jorge Campos Diaz (sportsmanship award) were the GC athletes recognized.

GTCC 61, CATAWBA VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE 43: Freshman Charlon Kloof scored a team-high 13 points to lead the GTCC Titans their their second win of the season. GTCC plays home on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Lenoir Community College.

GTCC 82, WAKE TECH 26: Amanda Campusano scored 15 points, Andria Walker had 11rebounds and Alison Cousin collected 10 assists to lead GTCC past Wake Tech in the season opener for both teams.

VOLLEYBALL
GREENSBORO COLLEGE: Greensboro College's Kacie Hyatt has been named third-team all-conference in the USA South. Teammate Sha McDuffie made the honorable mention team and Laura Borawski made the all-sportsmanship team.
UNCG 3, ELON 2: Luciana Shafer had 17 kills and Caley Redden delivered 4 of her 16 kills in the critical fifth set as UNCG defeated Elon. The Spartans moved into a tie for second place in the North Division with Elon.
WRESTLING
UNCG: UNCG was picked to finish third this season in the Southern Conference wrestling preseason coaches poll. Returning conference champion Chattanooga was picked to finish first. Appalachian State was picked second.
HONORS
UNCG: UNCG women's golfer Sofia Aidemark and women's basketball player Monique Floyd were inducted into UNCG's Golden Chain Honor Society on Sunday. Aidemark and Floyd were part of a 22-member induction class. The Golden Chain Honor Society recognizes UNCG students for outstanding achievement and service to the university.
