WINSTON-SALEM — A man suspected in two Guilford County bank robberies two weeks ago is accused in a Winston-Salem bank heist on Thursday.

At 12:49 p.m., police reported a man entered the Bank of America  at 698 Hanes Mall Blvd.  and presented a note demanding money.

The teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of money, and the man was last seen running near the Pavilions Shopping Center.  No injuries were reported.

He was described as a  white man, 45 years old, 200 pounds and 5 feet 8 inches tall.  He had a dark beard and was wearing a  baseball cap,  red bandana,  green shirt  and a dark  jacket.

A surveillance camera photo shows a University of Cincinnati Bearcats  logo on the jacket’s left breast.

The man closely resembles the suspect in the Oct. 21 robbery of the BB&T  on Westchester Drive  in High Point and in the Oct. 23  robbery of the First Citizens Bank  at 3200 Randleman Road  in Greensboro.

In each case, the man wore similar clothing, according to surveillance photos. Details of the robberies are also similar. No weapons were displayed in any of the robberies.

“We are sharing information with High Point and Greensboro on whether it’s the same suspect,” said Capt. David Clayton  of Winston-Salem police.

“We can’t say it’s him definitively until the cases are solved, but it’s very similar to what (they) have experienced.”

Sgt. Gerald Stephens,  who heads the robbery squad for Greensboro police, believes the three incidents are connected.

In the Greensboro case, he said help has been scarce to identify the suspect.

“Sometimes it just takes a while,” Stephens said. “He could be out of our media area or be from out of state. It might take the right person to see his photo.”

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is urged to call Crimestoppers at 373-1000 or local police.

Crime Stoppers callers remain anonymous and are eligible for cash rewards.
