Guilty drivers must pay

Friday, November 6, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

When caught, the cowards who have hit-and-run car accidents should (1) be charged with DWI and (2) be billed for the man-hours that it took police to catch them. This is only for proved hit-and- runs.

There's too many variables. Suppose a 16 year old female hits a gangstamobile chock full of cap bustas. Does she stop to see if they're okay, or does she break the land speed record and hopes to God her address never appears on the court papers?

Look! A racist illiterate lecturing another person incapable of structuring a mature line of thinking.
Thanks for providing this morning's entertainment, JMW & Jean Miller!

Jean (letter-writer), I don't think the DWI part of your letter would stand up in court.

But what if we had a second "DWI" category? That DWI(2) could stand for "Driving Without Integrity."

I have been the victim of two hit and run accidents. The first was yeards ago when I lived in Cary. I was coming home around 11 PM and a car came from a side road, didn't stop at the stop sign and sideswiped my car and took off. I called the police and their response was that if I didn't get their licensr plate there is nothing they could do. The next morning I went to thast side stree and saw there were only about 25 houses on the dead end street. I went to them all and asked if anyone left their house around 11 the previous night. Bingo, third house! A 17-year old was visiting and left then. I got the name and phone number and called. Talked to the father and he said his kid was hit last night. It was the kid's second hit and run incident. My second situation occured about 6 weeks ago. About 9 PM a car came up on my driver's side on the traffic median and hit me on my left front and ran a red light to escape. No tag number, no car description and I had to pay my $500 deductible. Again the police could do nothing for me. Keep pencil and paper handy to write down description, tag numbers and time of day. You could help catch a criminal.
