TYRO — A Davidson County deputy stopped an abandoned van from rolling into a house after it nearly hit another deputy at a traffic checkpoint Wednesday.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office said deputies were conducting a driver's license checkpoint at Swicegood Road and Old Wesley Chapel Road on Wednesday when a van approached.

The van did not stop, and the sheriff's office said it nearly hit a deputy.

Deputies chased the van to Lamb Road, and the van drove through a yard at Lamb Road and Lori Belle Lane. The driver jumped out of the van and ran away.

The van was still in drive and heading toward a house and outbuilding, but a deputy got behind the wheel and stopped the van.

A deputy used a Taser to stop the van's driver. The sheriff's office did not identify the deputies. No injuries were reported.

Timothy Wayne Jarvis, 35, of 215 Lori Belle Lane in Lexington, was arrested after the chase. His bond was set at $15,000. His court date is Jan. 5.

His charges include felony flee and elude, driving while license revoked, assault on a government official and having an open container.
