GREENSBORO — The ACC re-upped with the FedEx Orange Bowl and Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte for four more years but ended deals with the Gator and Emerald bowls.
The ACC, in announcing its bowl lineup for the 2010 to 2013 seasons, said the conference champion will continue to play in the FedEx Orange Bowl unless that team gets a bid to the BCS championship game.
The conference signed deals with the Brut Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas., and the Advocare 100 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.
The ACC ended deals with the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco. The Gator Bowl has elected to match teams from the SEC and Big 10, while the Emerald Bowl is going with a Pac 10-WAC matchup.
The Meineke Bowl moved up one spot in the ACC's lineup. The Charlotte bowl will have the conference's fourth pick starting in 2010 and the third choice from the Big East. This year's game, on Dec. 26 at Bank of America Stadium, will match the conference's fifth choice against a Big East school.
The new ACC bowl order will also guarantee that the Meineke Bowl will not get the loser of the ACC championship game, which will also be played in Charlotte starting in 2010.
Starting in 2010, the ACC's bowl order, with location, opponents and television network, will be:
* FedEx Orange (Miami Gardens, Fla., vs. BCS at-large, ESPN) or BCS championship game
* Chick-fil-A Bowl (Atlanta; vs. SEC; ESPN)
* Champs Sports Bowl (Orlando, Fla.; vs. Big East or Notre Dame; ESPN)
* Brut Sun Bowl (El Paso, Texas; vs. Pac-10; CBS). The nation’s fourth-oldest post-season bowl game will get the loser of the ACC championship game.
* Meineke Car Care Bowl (Charlotte; Big East; ESPN)
* Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl (Nashville, Tenn.; ESPN)
* Advocare 100 Independence Bowl (Shreveport, La.; vs. Mountain West; ESPN)
* Eagle Bank Bowl (Washington, D.C.; Conference USA in 2010, Navy in 2011, Army in 2012, Big 12 in 2013)
If the ACC has nine bowl eligible teams, the conference signed a conditional deal with the Emerald Bowl. An ACC team might Army, Navy, or teams from the Pac-10 or the WAC in that game.
