President’s leadership does not inspire trust

Sunday, November 8, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

We are in perilous times and you, News & Record, are not helping! You keep printing letters from those in favor of a public option in health care, yet more than 50 percent do not want this. We have seen what the government has done with some other programs. One I can think of that no one seems to remember is how well it has “cared for” the American Indians.

This administration has demonstrated the most egregious grab for power this country has ever seen! It wants to take over everything and control the news media, which should be the people’s watchdog.

In regard to our military and the situation in Afghanistan, Nero (Obama) is fiddling while Rome burns! Our soldiers are dying and Obama can’t keep himself in the White House and off Air Force One long enough to make a decision. A good leader makes informed decisions that may or may not be popular. There should be meetings in the White House with all the generals and others who know the situation until a solution emerges. This would involve not being available for every photo op, manufactured and real. Avoiding this decision will not make the problem go away!

"You keep printing letters from those in favor of a public option in health care, yet more than 50 percent do not want this."

You mean the 77%, according to SurveyUSA, who favor the public option?

Or maybe the 76% support NBC/WSJ found?
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/news/090617_NBC-WSJ_poll_Full...

Or maybe the 57 - 76 that support a public option (national v state-by-state) that the WaPo/ABC survey found?

Are you kidding me? Two of the surveys you quote only interviewed 1200 people. And you consider that a good representation? I agree with the letter writer that the true number of those who want a public option is far lower than that.

How do you agree or disagree with something without citing any evidence for it? If you think that the polls are incorrect, please point out a reputable poll organization that contradicts these results. I hope you are aware that all polling is done with a small representative sample of people from which the data is extrapolated onto the general population. This is called statistics.

" How do you agree or disagree with something without citing any evidence for it?"
You say either I agree or you say I dissagree.
You either have faith in the cited polls ( credibility) or you don't, it's just that simple!
I could show a poll that says otherwise, however, you wouldn't believe.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle and the "Teabaggers" are nowhere near the middle on this. The only way they gin up any crowd is when big money and a cable outlet conspires with them. Look at all the folks locally who received cards from BC/BS asking them to send to Kay Hagen....they quietly said no. BC/BS raised rates 11% and then had the testicles to ask their customers to support keeping their monopoly a monopoly! Have to hand it to the loud minority (Teabaggers) for being not only gullible but for refusing to ask the tough questions.

Learn how statistics work. 1200 is a LARGE sample, and is more than enough to get good results with a <.2% margin of error.

Slaan, did you read how the question was asked?

Good point, Doug. The devil is in the details.

I am far too lazy to find out how this was presented in the polls. I would like to know, however.

Ms. Lambeth, I'm sorry to say that you talk like an ignorant, know-nothing, rightwingnut Republican, a la Virginia Foxx! Seriously.

Now now, truman, try to talk nice.

Just where exactly was the argument in all that? I'll I got was a bunch of name-calling.

I do not want to get between the arguing factions here, but I do want to point out that Virginia Fox is an embarrassment to our region and our state. Her comparisons of Healthcare to Nazi Germany and her proclamation that Healthcare is terrorism is just too absurd to let go. One can be against something without having to be insane. Ms. Foxx, obviously, has a thin veneer of civility covering up a deep cavity of ignorance. Her depth of understanding is like a pre pubescent child's and is apparent with every word she speaks in opposition to the objective healthcare for most Americans. She is a very shallow lady.

"In regard to our military and the situation in Afghanistan, Nero (Obama) is fiddling while Rome burns! Our soldiers are dying...."

Oh, you mean those wars that Bush involved this country in during his administration and Obama inherited? Or are there some other ones that Obama himself has started that I have missed? I guess you have skewered that in the same way you have the people who favor a public option. Just more distortions by the right.

Your kind, Phyllis, have turned into the biggest whiners I have ever encountered in my life. If any of you actually had a thought other than the incessant whining that appears in this forum daily, others might listen. As of now, most of you seem like a bunch of sore loser crybabies.

Yvonne, yes we ALL know bush started the war. This is the mantra we hear day after day when anything is brought up about the war. But obama PROMISED he'd bring the troops home, yet we continue to send troops over there. Where are the protesters that used to stand on corners with signs lambasting the war? Where are those who protested the "needless deaths" of our soldiers? Why is, suddenly, it's ok? Yes, bush DID start all this, but obama's done NOTHING to end it as he PROMISED. Nor did the stimulus keep unemployment from rising above 9% as he PROMISED. He PROMISED the Cash for Clunkers was an answer, yet reports show it did nothing. He's PROMISED this and PROMISED that, but we're STILL in a hell of a mess in this country and people are hurting! People still wonder why we don't trust obama? Yes, I KNOW bush got us here and I know obama's only been in power for less than a year, but I can't see how spending billions and trillions of dollars right now will get us out of the mess we're in! So all of you continue to blame bush for everything because it makes you feel better, but casting the blame is doing NOTHING to help us get out of it. At least one thing people won't be able to blame bush for will be the high taxes, high costs, and poor quality of health care we'll have as a direct result of obama and his minions and their obsession with deciding how government should make the decisions for our medical needs.

I have never seen such sore winners in all my life.
The enablers of the supreme leader whine non stop about the losers of the last election and about the last president. Give it a break, please.

'Obama can’t keep himself in the White House and off Air Force One long enough to make a decision. '

From what I understand, he's on the golf course at least as much as he is in the White House/ AF1.....

Lead, follow or get out of the way. The community organizer is very good at the last two but the leading part? I have not seen any leadership yet.

He does have to take time for a date night with Lady M occasionally, about a quarter mil a pop. I'll bet that when they're eating, they wonder what the poor folks are having.
