Charles Davenport Jr. and I will never see eye-to-eye on a lot of things. But one thing I think we would both agree on is the unconditional love of a dog (column, “Loving friendship only a dog can give,” Nov. 1).
My father taught me that there is a “little bit of heaven” born in each and every dog. And it is this “bit” that gives a dog its unconditional love.
My father also taught me that a dog is a companion and a friend like no other you will ever have. Each day you share with a dog is a gift. Rich or poor, healthy or sick, home or homeless, food or none, a dog will stand by you to the end — always happy to be at your side — a partner and a loving companion forever.
And because of all the things that dogs are to us is the reason losing them hurts so much.
