On Oct. 22, the News & Record published a full-page ad by EnergyCitizens.org warning readers that they will be paying $4 a gallon for gas if Congress passes the climate bill. Ironically, I think we will be lucky if gas only goes to $4 in the future.
The days of affordable gas for fuel-guzzling Americans is going to end sooner or later. In Europe, gas is already well over $4. There are limited petroleum reserves and the ones that are left are getting more difficult to access and process.
The price of gas is going to go up whether we pass legislation to reduce carbon emissions that pollute our air or not. Voting against the climate bill will not prevent this.
However, voting against this bill will send a message to the world that Americans are unwilling to curb their own shortsighted self-interests and join other nations in working to secure the future health of our planet.
