GREENSBORO — A man shot himself Monday afternoon as officers confronted him outside his home, according to police.
The shooting happened just before 3:30 p.m. at 36 Brandy Court, said Greensboro police Capt. Janice Rogers.
Officers responded to a 911 call about a suicidal man armed with a handgun at the home.
When they arrived, a man was in the backyard of the residence with a handgun. Officers with a Taser confronted the man.
However, the man was able to shoot himself, Rogers said. The investigation has been handed over to the SBI at the request of police.
Rogers referred questions about the man’s identity and condition to the SBI. A spokeswoman for the agency did not return a message seeking comment.
The police department’s professional standards division is also conducting an investigation.
