Worth - Whelan

Martha Preston Worth and Robert William Whelan were united in marriage Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Circular Congregational Church, Charleston, S.C. The Reverend Albert H. Keller officiated. Following the ceremony, the reception was held at Gibbes Museum of Art and Courtyard in Charleston. On Friday evening, October 30, 2009, a Lowcountry Oyster Roast and Barbeque Rehearsal Dinner was held at Alhambra Hall, Mount Pleasant, S.C.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Preston Worth of Greensboro, N.C. She is the granddaughter of Dr. William B. Alsup, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and the late Martha McRae Alsup and Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McAlister Worth of Greensboro, NC and the late Anne Preston Worth. She is a graduate of Page High School and The College of Charleston where she earned a Batchelor of Science in Business Adminstration. She is an Account Executive with Sinclair Broadcast Group, Charleston.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Francis Whelan of Mount Pleasnt, S.C. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stanley Olsen, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and Mrs. Peggy Ann Whelan of Washington, DC and the late William Francis Whelan. He is a graduate of The College of Charleston where he earned a Batchelor of Arts degree. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the Univerisity of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia, S.C. He is an Attorney at Law with the lawfirm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP.

The bride was attended by Corinne Berry Jones of Greensboro, NC as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jacquelyn Stafford Buckner of Charlotte, NC, Kristen Elaine Everett of Columbia, SC and Erica Gooden Worth of Greensboro, NC, sister-in-law of the bride.

The honorary bridesmaids were Claudia Marie Tyler of Charleston, SC, Catherine Grace Duncan, Erin Elizbeth Stratton, Lindsay Jane Stratton and Adelaide Halstead Spizer, all of Charlote, NC, Bennette Cornwell Hopper of Morehead City, NC, Lisa Anne Reichert of Washington, DC, and Rebecca Bessire Hook and Elizabeth Carter Caudill, both of Louisville, Ky.

The flower girls were Ella Grace McGriff of Charlotte, NC, cousin of the bride, and Elsa Anne Worth of Greensboro, NC, niece of the bride. The groom chose his father, Patrick Francis Whelan of Mout Pleasant, SC, as best man. Groomsmen were Joshua Walker Nance of Charleston, SC, Sean Patrick Whelan, M.D. of Pittsburgh, Pa., brother of the groom, Christopher Carlos Williams of New Orleans, La., and the brothers of the bride, David Alsup Worth of Greensboro, NC and Jonathan McRae Worth of Charleston, SC.

Following a wedding trip to Mexico, the couple will reside in Charleston, SC.
