SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Terrell Hudgins caught three touchdowns and set a Football Championship Subdivision record as Elon beat Wofford 34-6 on Saturday.

Hudgins, who had 11 catches for 153 yards, had his 24th 100 yard game to surpass NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who set the previous record from 1981-84 at Mississippi Valley State.

Hudgins set the record when Scott Riddle connected with him on a 32-yard touchdown, giving the Phoenix (7-1, 5-0 Southern Conference) a 17-3 lead with 1:22 left in the first quarter. The receiver also had touchdown catches of 10 and 16 yards.

Riddle was 31-for-44 passing for 323 yards and one interception for Elon. Brandon Newsome ran for 40 yards on 10 carries, including a 15-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Elon totaled 402 yards on offense compared to the Terriers (2-6, 1-4), who finished with 170 yards.

The only points of the first quarter came on the opening drive, when the Phoenix went 49 yards on 10 plays before Adam Shreiner's 36-yard field goal.

Elon extended its lead to 10-0 on the first play of the second quarter, when Riddle floated a pass to the back corner of the end zone that was hauled in by Hudgins for a 10-yard TD. It was the 11th touchdown of the year for Hudgins, surpassing his 2008 total of 10. The lengthy drive took over 6 minutes off the clock and went 14 plays. During the drive, Elon converted three third downs, including a 26-yard pick-up to Hudgins on third-and-8.

Elon recovered a Wofford fumble in the third quarter at the Terrier's 42 yard line.

Elon made Wofford pay for the turnover when the duo of Riddle and Hudgins connected again, this time for a 16-yard touchdown as Elon moved ahead 27-6. On the drive, Sean Jeffcoat kept Elon moving downfield with a 14-yard catch on third-and-6.

The final score of the game came three plays after Wofford turned the ball over on downs at its 24 yard line. Brandon Newsome carried on all three plays and found the end zone on a 15-yard burst with 2:12 remaining in the game.

Elon's Joshua Jones had eight tackles and forced a fumble. Eric Ludwig recovered two fumbles and made four tackles.
