Update: Moped driver killed in Rockingham County crash
REIDSVILLE – An Eden man died this morning after his moped was struck by a car.
Johnny Wayne Spence, 50, was traveling south in the 2700-block of N.C. 14 on a moped when he was struck from behind by a car about 6:40 a.m., said Trooper G.R. Strader, of the Highway Patrol.
Spence lost control of the moped, rolled onto the vehicle’s windshield and died instantly, Strader said.
The driver of the vehicle, a four-door Honda sedan, was cited for driving without proper insurance.
Other charges may be forthcoming after an investigation, Strader said.
Strader said Spence was wearing a helmet, and alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors to the crash.
