AC-DC sound disappoints

Monday, November 2, 2009
(Updated 2:00 am)

I was in town for the AC-DC show at the coliseum. But I was disappointed with the sound tech’s inability to balance the sound.

Why in the world they felt the need to pump up the bass and drums so as to drown out the vocals and lead guitar is beyond me. It was a great show theatrically and it had very good musical moments, as during an extended guitar solo without bass and drum accompaniment.

But for the most part the poorly mixed sound ruined it.

It may have been intentional. Let's not forget that Brian Johnson just turned 62 years old. They may have felt it was necessary to drown out his vocals.

I wouldn't be so hard on the sound technician. The acoustics are absolutely terrible in our white elephant on Lee St. With all the money spent on enlarging, renovating, expanding the coliseum, you would think they would spend a little money to help the acoustics. They could have used the $100.000.00 they just spent grading for a new outdoor theater, which no one knew anything about, except Matt Brown and the interim city manager. It would have been money much better spent.
