Proven leader Perkins deserves another term

Friday, October 30, 2009
(Updated 3:00 am)

Robbie Perkins has served this community for 14 years on the City Council. In that time, he has proven himself to be a leader with the vision and experience it takes to move our community forward.

It is imperative we elect strong, level-headed members to ensure that this council can work collaboratively for Greensboro’s future.

Over the last two years, in particular, Robbie has demonstrated his ability to look beyond individual priorities and bring many voices together for the greater good. We need to continue to have Robbie’s voice on City Council. I urge you to vote for him Nov. 3.

It's sad to see that the inertia from yesterday's new commenters (especially from UNC-G) was slaughtered by Allen's decision to run these moldy election letters today. Where's the beef?

I would disagree that Robbie Perkins has moved our community forward in those fourteen years. Remember Project Homestead? That was certainly not moving us forward.

Ms. jeaniegnc,
Project Homestead? You had to reach back quite a long time ago to find something to pillory Mr. Perkins with, now didn't you? We've seen many of our politicians 'mature' and I'll even say that Zack Matheny has done so, although not at a very swift click. Only one, Mary Rakestraw, would take us back in time, as she is a throwback to 'scorched earth' politics--the ONLY thing she does well. As to Mr. Perkins, he is a credit to the community and is quite a leader. I will cast my vote for Mr. Perkins and do so without hesitation. I only wish I lived in the district of Joel Landau whereby I could cast a vote for him.

oh good grief

"You had to reach back quite a long time ago . . . ."

It wasn't that long ago, Rightwingnemesis. If memory serves, it was less than 7 years ago -- not long at all, considering that political and just plain erroneous thinking can cause erosion in the fiber of a community for far more than a mere decade.

Your problem, as I see it, Rightwingnemesis, is that you either (1) weren't in Greensboro during previous shenanigans, (2) you were too ignorant to know of those shenanigans, (3) you knew but didn't care about the shenanigans, (4) you have lost the ability to remember those shenanigans, and/or (5) the shenanigans sat just fine with you (perhaps you were even in on them. Who knows what shadowy figures lurk here.

Jeanie, I wish we could start a "I Remember that Shenanigan/Brouhaha/Political Ploy Club" for long-time residents (taxpayers) here in G'boro who do have the ability to remember all the people who have pulled strings so very unwisely in the past.

Now if we could just figure out who the shills and/or progeny of those in-the-background "movers and shakers" are in the present day, maybe we really could clean house of people in government who occupy positions of power only to scratch the backs of their friends and to have the City "scratch" their backs when their "friends" get tired of "giving back" for the original back scratches.

If you support big money developers and more of the same ole, same ole I'd say Robbie Perkins is your man.

Perkins, proven leader? I'll admit if you consider the idiots he normally votes with, like Yvonne Johnson, Goldie Wells and Diane Bellamy-Small, he is the best of them all. But that only makes him the "leader" of the IDIOTS club.

grief, wgm, and beachwalk (of course!), y'all talk trash. But maybe y'all don't know any better than to do so. It's pitiful? Are y'all adults?

Uh, Xena, it is not trash it is the truth! Maybe you need to go back and refresh your memory or take a stroll down memorylane back in the good ole days when Robbie Perkins and his crew (many of the same ones who vote with him now) helped Project Homestead and King at every turn.

Taxpayers know that there were many questionable things that happened with Project Homestead and probably many more illegal transactions. We also know that no one was charged, convicted or paid for their misdeeds. The only people paying for the mistakes that were made by Project Homestead were the taxpayers. Thanks Robbie Perkins. If you want more of the same, keep electing the same people.

Robbie does not think the city should pay legal bills for the good cops.
Thats the only reason I need to vote against him. He didn't have any problem throwing money down the big hole on Lee street.
