I recently attended both City Council candidate forums sponsored by the Greensboro Congress of Neighborhoods and have been impressed by the concern candidates have expressed for economic development as a top priority.
I live in a neighborhood close to UNCG, where commercial real-estate developers have attempted to build high-density residential units directly adjacent to low-density single-family housing, and mixed-use projects in residential areas.
These projects have been deterred by our hardworking neighborhood association and a City Council that values
neighborhoods and considers quality of life an issue equally as important as economic development.
In the forums, District 4 candidate Joel Landau was the only one I heard qualify his concern for economic development by acknowledging the importance of sustainability and quality-of-life issues.
I’m confident that his approach is right for District 4 and for the city. I’ll be voting for Landau on Nov. 3.
