Former Sheriff Burch backs Knight for mayor

Though there are many fine law-enforcement officers in the Greensboro Police Department, for whatever reason a small group has been allowed to impugn the excellent reputation the department enjoyed for years.

I don’t understand why they’re still in uniform and being paid by our tax money.

I know firsthand what good law enforcement is and is not. I served our citizens as deputy chief of police and later as sheriff of Guilford County.

I think the most important concern of Greensboro citizens is having an efficient and professional police department.

I worry about the large number of residential burglaries and that response time to a 911 call has increased from seven to 14 minutes within the last four years.

Bill Knight has personally promised me that he would do all that is possible to restore integrity and professionalism to the Greensboro Police Department.

I have known Bill for many years; he is the breed of man that his word is his bond.

Vote for Bill Knight for mayor and for a strong police department.

Mr. Burch, I've always liked you, and I've always respected you. This time, I must disagree with your choice for mayor. I am glad to see your heath is good enough to write this letter, and I wish you many more years in this world.

I have a friend who, when he was 18, was arrested for failure to appear on an underage drinking charge. Within 12 minutes of being placed with the ubangi tribe of the east side, he was beaten savagely. The left side of his face was swollen for two weeks.

It would seem like any caring sheriff would keep a couple of cells open for non-violent offenders to reduce the chances of unprovoked assault. Proving, unequivocally, you are unqualified to endorse anyone for office.

Sticky, as most politicians do, Bill Knight makes promises, promises, promises! And doesn't always keep them after election to office. So, I'll continue to vote for Yvonne Johnson! (Maybe you should too!)

xeno(IQ)10, How do you know Bill Knight will not keep his promises? He has never been mayor of Greensboro before. However, we do know the record of Yvonne Johnson. Her record (along with the record of Goldie Wells and Diane Bellamy-mall) makes this city look like a bunch of fools. We need some REAL leadership in this city. I encourage you to vote for Bill Knight. Have a nice day.
