Plan your garden using free tech

(MCT) — As the leaves fall, it's time to think about next year's garden. Lowe's offers a free online application to plan your plantings and print out your results.

1. To use the design tool, you must register at lowes.com. After registering, at the top of Lowe's home page, select How-to and then Interactive Design Tools from the drop-down menu. Finally, under Outdoors, choose Lowe's Garden Planner and launch it.

2. Take the tutorial before starting your design. It will explain how to use the application's tools, how to choose appropriate plants for this region and how to place objects on the grid. Unfortunately, we could not find a save function, so plan to do all of your design in one sitting.

3. One of the best functions of the program is that you can print out your design and shopping list. The shopping list details the names of the plants for each garden bed, their types, growing diameters, heights and the quantity needed. Bring on spring!
