GREENSBORO — A Greensboro police officer fired his gun but missed a High Point man after the man attempted to run over the officer with a car, police said.
At 9:13 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the parking lot of an apartment complex at 701 Greenhaven Drive on a call about a suspicious vehicle.
According to court records and police, Officer H.B. Harris was investigating the vehicle, a four-door Buick sedan, when the driver accelerated and attempted to strike him.
The officer pulled his weapon and fired one shot at the driver but missed, said Lt. Dennis Willoughby.
Harris was struck in the right knee by the vehicle and was treated and released from the hospital, documents state.
Officers arrested Larod Lasharod Rowell, 24, of 1712 E. Kivett Drive in connection with the incident. He was charged with assault on a government official with a deadly weapon, marijuana possession and resisting a public officer.
Rowell is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro.
Willoughby did not say how far away the officer was when he opened fire or if any weapons were recovered from the vehicle. Police are continuing to investigate.
The incident also will be investigated by the department’s Internal Affairs division, Willoughby said.
