Regarding the article highlighting Wiley Elementary School and its single-gender classroom project (Oct. 11):
I am truly appalled at the stigma that is being attached to the Middle College at N.C. A&T — a school that I’ve found to be a very positive environment for anyone’s son.
It is a high-functioning school with small classes and absolutely wonderful, caring teachers and administrators. My grandson has always been an “A/B” honor roll student. We chose this school for him because of the small class sizes and the testimonies of graduates and current students. They attested to the fact that the size of the school and its all-male student body have allowed for fewer distractions and more focus on education.
The article stated the school did not meet AYP. But only one student did not meet EOG requirements. The school also achieved a 23-point growth last year, the second-highest in the district. It is comments such as those in Sunday’s article that will derail the progress this school is making.
I am truly disappointed in the media not presenting all the facts.
