Office you seek: Town councilman

Occupation: Truck driver

Age: 46

Education: High school

Address: 317 Brightwood Church Road, Gibsonville

Email address: GreesonLee@yahoo.com

Previous elective experience: None

Other relevant experience: Whitsett Town Planning Board

Why have you chosen to run for this office? To see that all the residents of the town are treated fairly and the same.

Key qualifications you would bring to the job: Common sense, I have lived in this community my whole life.

Family: My wife Ann, her two children and my son Lucas, and daughter Katheryn, and my two grandchildren Josh and Peyton.

What distinguishes you most from your opponents? Deep roots in the community. Most citizens know where I stand and what I believe in.

Please list the top three issues in Whitsett and your stances on those issues: The taxes that residents are now having to pay, because when we voted to form the town of Whitsett was to avoid taxes. I realize why the town needed to start taxing the citizens but I don’t want over taxation of the citizens. Right now in this economy is not the time to be raising taxes on anyone, we need to be lowering the taxes.
I do not want to see this town be annexed in to Burlington in the future because it goes against the principles on which this town was founded back in 1991.
Water. The citizens of Whitsett depend on well water, and a lot residents have contaminated wells, the town is doing all it can to help these residents get clean water. I believe it is an issue that needs to be looked at in depth especially with high concern for drought.

If you were to give Whitsett a letter grade on its effectiveness in managing growth, what would it be? I would give the town a “B.” Growth is needed to keep the community strong, but too much growth would take away from Whitsett and that is a small town where you know your neighbors.

What vote or decision of the current council would you overturn? Why do you disagree with the decision? Nothing, every decision they have made in the past four years have been made to keep the town running. I am not fond of the property tax but I agree it was needed to keep the town operating. I believe the books for the budget should be opened for the residents to see, and that the books should have more detail in them. So that the residents can see were the money is going and why there was a need to implement a property tax.
