The Guilford County Department of Public Health and N. C. State are collaborating on a new project that could help reduce animal rabies in Guilford County.

N.C. State researchers have developed a survey to assess the public’s knowledge of rabies and the rabies pet vaccination status in the county, a press release states.

The survey will help the Department of Public Health design a low cost animal rabies vaccination program.

This survey will be administered door to door by N.C. State students in Guilford County neighborhoods in November.

It should take about 15 minutes to complete and will be available in both English and Spanish. Information collected will be strictly confidential.

In 2006, Guilford County led the state with 37 cases of animal rabies. The state reported 521 cases in all.

To date, nine cases of rabies have been recorded in the county this year.
