Office you seek: Gibsonville Alderman

Occupation: Director of Planning, Design & Construction at Elon University

Age: 62

Education: Master’s degree in architectural engineering

Address: 312 Driftwood Drive

Email address: Bromilow@elon.edu

Previous elective experience: none

Other relevant experience (boards and commissions, etc.): Member of Gibsonville Planning Board; Chairman of Gibsonville Downtown Revitalization Commission

Why have you chosen to run for this office?
To continue implementation of the revitalization program and to increase business development. Also to create plans for the future town growth, and funding strategies for additional public services. My motto is “If you don’t have the money, then don’t spend any.”

Key qualifications you would bring to the job: Over 40 years of planning, maintenance, and construction experience, plus community organizer for revitalization.

Family:
wife and two grown sons

What distinguishes you most from your opponents? I have been involved with the town government for several years implementing the downtown revitalization program and assisting in ongoing operations. I also know the design and construction business, which will be directly applicable to the proposed Recreation Center and Maintenance Shop projects currently in design.

Please list the top three issues in Gibsonville and your stances on those issues (briefly, please):
1. New recreation center: I believe such a facility is needed for the community, but not if taxes are increased for it.
2. New maintenance chops: I believe it is too expensive and should be scaled back or cancelled.
3. Attracting new employers to Gibsonville: I believe we need to be more active advertising the benefits of starting or expanding businesses in our town. We have empty warehouses and factory facilities that could be active, plus building sites in the downtown area that could easily be institutional or housing areas, which would create more jobs here.

If you were to give Gibsonville a letter grade on its effectiveness in managing growth, what would it be? “B”

What vote or decision of the current council would you overturn? Why do you disagree with the decision? I would not have purchased the new maintenance building on Springwood Church Road prior to having a complete funding plan for the Recreation Center project.
