Why have you chosen to run for this office? I appreciate the opportunity that I have had to serve on the board for the last four years. I care deeply for the town of Elon and am willing to spend the time and energy needed to study issues that come before the board.
Key qualifications you would bring to the job: As a retiree I will focus on service to the town as a member of the board. I am currently serving as the board liaison to the Library Building Committee. I want to see that project completed.
Family: husband, Eugene; daughters Jeanne and Susie, son mark and his wife, Sara, and son, Jackson (residents of Elon).
What distinguishes you most from your opponents? I have lived in Elon for more than half of my life. Citizens have felt comfortable contacting me about issues that concern them. I live in Town Center and have personal experience with issues related to this part of town. I am retired and have the time needed to serve the town and the citizens.
Please list the top three issues in Elon and your stances on those issues:
1. The budget and finance constraints that we are currently dealing with due to the recession.
2. Building the branch library that will serve the citizens of Elon and the western portion of the county.
3. Implementing the Pedestrian, Bicycle and Lighting plan that will improve the safety of Elon citizens.
If you were to give Elon a letter grade on its effectiveness in managing growth, what would it be? A- The Land Development Ordinance that was passed in 2004 has been valuable in managing growth and development. The board needs to review the plan and implement changes where needed.
What vote or decision of the current council would you overturn? Why do you disagree with the decision? Past decisions and just that -- past decisions. Each board member has had a chance to question, gather facts and vote their conscience. I support all of the decisions that have been made.
