HIGH POINT (MCT) — A plant on English Road will join the long list of manufacturing facilities that have shut down operations in High Point.

Valspar will close its paint manufacturing facility at 1647 W. English Road, where about 30 employees will lose their jobs.

Production at the facility will shut down by the end of November, according to Mike Dougherty, a spokesperson at the company's corporate office in Minneapolis. A small staff will remain on hand to assist in the closing process until the end of the year.

Employees were notified of the closure in June, he said.

Dougherty said Separation benefits were available to salaried employees, and severance for the hourly workers had been negotiated with unioin leaders at the plant.

Two other Valspar locations in High Point at 2137 Brevard Road and 1717 W. English Road will remain open. Dougherty said this closing does not affect those plants.

Valspar has operated the plant since the mid-1980s.
