Greensboro-based Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. said Wednesday it will build a shopping center on a 52-acre parcel in Mebane.
The site, on Arrowhead Boulevard beside Interstate 40/85 in Alamance County, will be the future location of Tanger Outlet Center of the Piedmont.
Preliminary work is already under way, and an official groundbreaking ceremony will take place in December. The project is slated for completion in late 2010.
The new Tanger Outlet Center will be Tanger's third outlet shopping center in North Carolina. The company operates the Tanger Outlets in Blowing Rock along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tanger Outlet Center in Nags Head.
The 317,000-square-foot Tanger Outlet Center in Mebane will include about 80 brand name and designer outlet stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Banana Republic Factory, Coach Factory, Gap Outlet, J. Crew, Michael Kors, BCBG/Girls, Nike Factory and Tommy Hilfiger.
The project represents a $60 million investment by Tanger, according to a news release.
