A caretaker and her fiance face charges following the death of a 4-year-old boy, the Forsyth County Sheriff's office said.
On Sunday at 12:32 a.m., investigators responded to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center at the request of medical staff regarding a boy's life-threatening injuries.
The child was taken to the emergency department by Forsyth County medical personnel accompanied by his care provider, DebraLee Ann Matthews, and her fiance, James Columbus Morrison, Jr., according to the sheriff's office.
The child died as a result of those injuries.
Investigators charged Morrison, 36, with one count of murder and Matthews, 22, with one count of felonious accessory after the fact.
There were being held in the Forsyth County jail without bond pending a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 6.
Both live at 230 Fieldcreek Court in Winston-Salem, according to the sheriff's office.
