ASHEVILLE (AP) — Morning frost is covering the Carolinas, and some parts of the region are seeing temperatures below the freezing mark.

The National Weather Service has issued a frost warning until 9 a.m. Monday for most of North Carolina and South Carolina. The western counties of both states face a freeze warning, and Asheville recorded temperatures of 30 degrees at 7 a.m.

Forecasters expect sunny skies across the region as temperatures rise about 25 degrees through the day. Temperatures will fall again overnight, and another frost advisory already is in place for Tuesday morning.

In the Triad, Fosyth, Guilford, Alamance, Davidson, Randolph, Montgomery and Davie counties are included in the Tuesday morning frost advisory, which is in effect from 4 to 9 a.m. The advisory also extends to Wake, Durham and Orange counties in the Triangle.

Frost will be scattered Tuesday morning as temperatures are expected to drop into the low- to mid-30s overnight.

In the counties along the North Carolina-Virginia border, the frost warning is from 3 to 10 a.m. Tuesday. That area includes Rockingham, Caswell, Stokes and Surry counties in the Triad.

A frost advisory means that frost is possible. Sensitive indoor plants may die if left outside overnight.

Today's low was 36 degrees at Piedmont Triad International Airport, 10 degees below the normal lows for this time of year. The record low there was 28 degrees in 1948.
