A drama teacher at Mineral Springs Middle School in Winston-Salem faces charges including taking indecent liberties with a student, the sheriff's office said.
On Thursday, a school system administrator contacted the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office to report an allegation of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.
Sheriff's office investigators looked into the matter and arrested Ralph David Surridge, 57, of 2295 Jay Dee Drive in Winston-Salem, according to a news release.
Surridge was charged with one felonious count of statutory sexual offense against someone between 13 and 15 years old, one felonious count of sexual offense with a student, five felonious counts of indecent liberties with a child, and three felonious counts of taking indecent liberties with a student.
Surridge was being held in the Forsyth County jail under a $1.5 million secured bond.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 6.
On Sunday, investigators also charged Surridge with five felonious counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
His bond was increased by $500,000, bringing the total to $2 million.
