Sherard Corbitt Huffstetler and Ernest Webb Spangler III were united in marriage Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Front Street United Methodist Church in Burlington, North Carolina. Dr. William Carl Simpson and the Reverend Benjamin David Alexander officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Henry Huffstetler, Jr. of Burlington, NC. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Margaret Ross Huffstetler and the late Mr. Samuel Henry Huffstetler, Sr.; the late Mr. John Frank Sherard, Jr. and Mrs. Hilda Boone Sherard; and Mrs. Mary Brown Wood and the late Mr. Bill Francis Wood. She is a 1997 graduate of Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, NC. In 2001, she received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science at North Carolina State University where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She also received a Master's Degree of Science in Health Science in 2007 from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. She was presented at the Western North Carolina Society Debutante Ball in Shelby, NC. She is a Physician Assistant - Certified in Mt. Holly, NC.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Webb Spangler II of Shelby, NC. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ballenger Howell and Mrs. Evelyn Harrill Spangler and the late Mr. Earl Webb Spangler. He is a 1998 graduate of Crest High School in Shelby, NC. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Design at North Carolina State University in 2003 where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He is employed as an Industrial Designer in Product Development at Lowe's Corporate in Mooresville, NC.
The bride was given in marriage by her father and was attended by Mrs. Jessica Gross Fincher of Charlotte, NC as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Angela Cascarano Quinn of Arlington, VA; Mrs. Bethany Anne Klein of Washington, DC; Mrs. Emily Elder Avetta of Durham, NC; Reverend Kathryn Elaine Spangler, sister of the groom, of Raleigh, NC; and Miss Margaret Elizabeth Spangler, sister of the groom, of Shelby, NC.
The best man was Mr. Ernest Webb Spangler II, father of the groom, of Shelby, NC. Groomsmen were Mr. Jonathan Michael Philbeck of Charlotte, NC; Dr. Joshua Austell Harrill of Durham, NC; Mr. Timothy Ezzell Fincher, Jr., of Charlotte, NC and Mr. Steven Charles Henry. Honorary and Program Attendants were Miss Amber Cherie Huffman of Washington, DC; Mrs. Brandi Crawford Reeves of Tampa, FL; and Mrs. Susan Drake Sellew of Charleston, SC. Ushers were Nicholas Lee Means, Christopher Robert Means and Mr. Steven Charles Henry, all cousins of the groom, and Jacob Zannon Dixon.
Prior to the wedding, parties in honor of the couple were given by friends and family: a dinner party on Moss lake by Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McPherson of Shelby, NC; a Mexican theme dinner shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kornegay of Burlington, NC; a Bridal Luncheon, at the home of Mrs. Patty Russell, the groom's aunt of Waxhaw, NC and co-hosted by another of the groom's aunts, Ms. Carol Henry of Shelby, NC; and an afternoon Ladies Shower at the home of Mrs. Linda Williamson of Elon, NC. The bride's aunt, Mrs. JoAnna H. Bright of Greensboro, NC and Mrs. Mimi Witherow of Winston-Salem, NC hosted the bridesmaids and groomsmen with lunch preceding the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, a dinner dance was given by the parents of the bride at the Alamance Country Club. On Friday evening the parents of the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at B. Christopher's in Burlington, NC. Earlier Friday, a bridesmaids luncheon was hosted by Maud Cockman, Janie Crouch, Nancy Drake and Mary Zeta Hornaday at the Alamance Country Club. The grandmothers of the bride and groom, Mrs. Margaret R. Huffstetler, Mrs. Evelyn H. Spangler, and Mrs. Mary B. Wood, hosted a brunch on Sunday morning following the ceremony.
The couple will reside in Charlotte, NC, after a wedding trip to Hawaii.
