Cantrell - Perkins

Sarah Spielman Cantrell and Matthew Ross Perkins were united in marriage on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Irving Park United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC. The Rev. Brian Clay Allen, the Rev. Craig Thomas Kocher, and the Rev. Abby Williford Kocher officiated. Music was provided by Patryck Joseph Nuss, organist, and vocalists Sherry Kay McGauvran of Greensboro, NC, Sarah Baker Perkins of Paoli, PA, sister-in-law of the groom, and William Daniel Perrault III of Washington, DC. The wedding was directed by Jennifer Rabon Sawyer who was assisted by Emily Woodfin Voight.

Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at Greensboro Country Club. Reception music was provided by pianist Andrew Stephen O'Connor of High Point, NC, as well as the wedding band, Black and Blue of Greensboro, NC. On Friday evening, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Revolution Mill Studios. Also on Friday, the aunts of the bride, Mrs. Sara Lee Esary, Mrs. Marsha Kelley, and Mrs. Helen Senhauser, hosted a bridesmaid luncheon at The Secret Tea Room in Greensboro.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher Cantrell, junior of Greensboro, NC. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Lynn Seeley Kelley of Camden, SC and the late Mrs. June Brown Kelley and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher Cantrell. She is the great-niece of Mrs. Helen Brown Senhauser of Columbus, OH. She is a graduate of Greensboro Day School and Davidson College, where she earned a B. A. degree in English. She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration at NC State University.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Virginius Perkins III of Greensboro, NC and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Christopher Starr of Greensboro, NC. He is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Virginius Perkins, junior of Richmond, VA and the late Mrs. Jeannette Liebert Perkins, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Renatus Christian Gelzer, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Maxwell, Ms. Jacquelyn Denison Dabbs, Mr. Robert Frank Dabbs, all of Greensboro, NC, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Comfort Starr. The groom graduated from Greensboro Day School and Duke University where he earned a B. S. in Economics. He is a Financial Consultant with Accenture Ltd.

The bride was escorted by her father. Her gown was accented by the veil worn by her mother in 1972. The couple recessed to "For All the Saints" by Ralph Vaughn Williams, played in memory of loved ones. The bride was attended by her sister, Kelley Elizabeth Cantrell of Arlington, VA as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sara Ashley Cantrell of Alpharetta, GA, sister-in-law of the bride, Sara Anne Voight of Greensboro, NC, Katherine Hamilton Cashwell of Annapolis, MD, and Morgan Kathryn Gregson of Hillsborough, NC. The honorary bridesmaids were the sisters of the groom, Caroline Behle Perkins of Raleigh, NC, Virginia Elaine Perkins, Emily Lawrence Perkins, and Page Elizabeth Starr, all of Greensboro, NC.

The groom chose his brothers, Robert Maxwell Perkins of Paoli, PA and Taylor Christopher Starr of Boone, NC as best men. Groomsmen were James Fletcher Cantrell III of Alpharetta, GA, brother of the bride, Stephen Alexander Wheless of Chapel Hill, NC and Brandon Jonathan Goodwin of Houston, TX. The ushers were Craig Ralt Bohn of New York, NY, Michael David Cote of Dayton, OH, and Russell Wayne Perkins, junior of Richmond, VA and William Henry Perkins of Manakin-Sabot, VA, both cousins of the groom.

Scripture was read by Julie Elizabeth Holmberg of Greenville, SC and Katherine Lee Sorrell of Houston, TX. Program attendants and greeters were Catherine Harrison Walker of Asheville, NC and Rashmi Sweety Vyas of Asheboro, NC.

The couple now resides in Raleigh, NC.
