Stepfather charged with abuse
WENTWORTH — A Reidsville man faces criminal charges after a 5-year-old child suffered internal injuries and external bruising.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said the child, who was not identified, is being treated at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Deputies did not give specifics about the child's injuries but called the bruising "massive."
Mark Anthony Dockery, 40, of Punkin Road has been charged with felony child abuse. He is being held in the Rockingham County jail on a $250,000 bond.
The county's Department of Social Services reported the suspected abuse to the sheriff's office on Wednesday.
Authorities said Dockery is the child's stepfather. The sheriff's office did not say when the child was injured or how the injuries occurred.
