CANTON (AP) — A North Carolina pastor says his church in Canton plans to burn Bibles and books by Christian authors on Halloween to light a fire under true believers.

Pastor Marc Grizzard told Asheville TV station WLOS that the King James version of the Bible is the only one that his small western North Carolina church follows. All other versions, such as the Living Bible, are "satanic" and "perversions" of God's word, he said.

On Halloween, Grizzard and the 14 members of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church also will burn music and books by Christian authors such as Billy Graham and Rick Warren.

Telephone calls to the Amazing Grace Baptist Church and Grizzard's home were not immediately returned Wednesday.

Yee-haw! Maybe the following weekend will be "bring your own snake to church" weekend. Also, I wonder if this pastor knows about King James I's fondness for same-sex romps?

I hate people like this and do not agree with how people like to manipulate a religion to fit their needs. in my opinion everyone who agrees or suports this should burn in hell. Christianity is all about how one person feels about a religion and turns it into what they want it aint about god or what you need to do to worship him. Its all about what those people can fit and squeez what they can into religion to make it fit their lifestyles.

People like this are plumb frightening. I bet that they still believe in witches as well.

Perhaps this explains why his so called church has only 14 members. Gods Word is Gods Word, no matter what the title is. By you burning christian books shows your ignorance in seeing the need to give them to someone who could benefit from reading about God. This is a publicity stunt to draw attention to yourself and what you call a church.I think you should reflect upon your life and give great thought about how you are leading the flock of this church. God will have a stronger judgment upon the leaders who lead their flock astray.

I hope he knows there are other nuts out there besides him, it sounds like he's biting off more than he can chew. Some of the nuts may decide to return the favor to him. I hope it doesn't happen. But this NUT is really asking for some trouble for him and the 14 others.

I had to laugh at Jeff Armstrong's comments (he's the first poster). He's so very right. King James I was more than a little "light on his throne" -- matter of fact -- when he ruled -- the word going around was Elizabeth was king and James was queen. Believe me, I have nothing against gay people, and this isn't a slam on them. I just wonder if the "Rev" Grizzard would have such an affinity for the King James version of the Bible is he knew that King James was bedding men in his spare time, and history says, he had a lot of time and a lot of men. I love the ignorance of southern hillbilly "ministers" and their idiotic rants...

Agreed. On the "KJV only" issue, I wonder how these clay-eaters reason that God somehow allowed only "devilish" versions of the Bible to perpetuate until the 17th century. I guess God didn't really care much for "Christians" until King James came along, huh? Stupid and willful is a really bad combination for anyone, religious or not.

I'm not exactly sure what these folks intend to accomplish here, but it appears some people have some mental issues to sort through in the Canton area. Why for the love of God would you be burning religious materials of any kind being members of a church and on Halloween at that? Apparently these folks need more than prayer, they need to reduce the amount of their medications!

The Nazis burned books too. What is the church's position regarding pre-KJV bibles? It's disturbing to see the legacies of fascism and genocide perpetuated in our own backyard.
