Charles Perkins and Roberta Nickelson were named the Rockingham County Schools’ 2010 Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year, respectively.
Perkins is principal of Reidsville Middle School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UNCG and a master’s in administration from Appalachian State University. Perkins has worked for the Rockingham County Schools for 10 years as a teacher, assistant principal and principal.
“Charles Perkins consistently meets and exceeds the high expectations I have for principals,” Superintendent Rodney Shotwell said. “He is the type of principal that every superintendent wishes he could clone.”
Perkins is married to Tiffany Perkins, who is the principal at Huntsville Elementary School. They have a 3-year-old son, Jake.
Nickelson, assistant principal at Monroeton Elementary School, has been an educator for 28 years. She taught in Ohio for three years before coming to Rockingham County, where she also has worked as a reading, English and math teacher.
The N.C. Department of Public Instruction and Wachovia Bank are co-sponsors of the Principal of the Year program. Perkins will compete with other recipients in the Piedmont Triad.
