1 killed, 3 injured in U.S. 29 crash

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY — A road crew worker died in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 29 in Rockingham County.
State Highway Trooper T.T. Tucker said a white truck was traveling northbound on U.S. 29 about 1:50 p.m. Friday when it sideswiped a trailer carrying two road crew members who were picking up cones from the road.
One road crew member died. The other worker was transported to Moses Cone Hospital along with the drivers from both vehicles.
Tucker said the worker was not a state crew member, but was hired under a private contractor.
No one has been charged in connection with the accident.
Troopers will not release the name of the victim until they notify his next of kin.
