RALEIGH (AP) — Federal prosecutors say two North Carolina terrorism suspects plotted to attack government and military installations in Virginia and elsewhere.

An updated federal indictment released Friday says Daniel Patrick Boyd and Hysen Sherifi believed that violent jihad was obligatory.

Prosecutors say Boyd conducted reconnaissance at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va., in June and reviewed maps two weeks later to plan and coordinate an attack at the base 30 miles south of Washington.

The indictment says Boyd had a weapon and ammunition he intended to use. Authorities say the suspects plotted attacks at other sites, but does not name them.

Seven men have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators believe an eighth suspect is in Pakistan.
