The Carolina Panthers have signed defensive tackle Antwon Burton to replace Louis Leonard, who broke his left ankle in Sunday's loss to Atlanta.
The 6-foot-2, 325-pound Burton played at Temple and appeared in seven games with Denver in 2006-07. He was briefly with Kansas City and St. Louis last season and was released by the Rams earlier this month.
Burton is Carolina's latest big body to help fill the hole at defensive tackle after Maake Kemoeatu ruptured his Achilles' tendon in training camp.
Nick Hayden struggled in his place, then missed Sunday's game with a toe injury. Leonard was acquired from Cleveland earlier this month and started against the Falcons before being injured.
REDSKINS: Guard Randy Thomas was placed on injured reserve and running back Anthony Alridge was signed from the Texans' practice squad.
Alridge spent training camp with the Redskins, rushing 10 times for 46 yards in two preseason games. He was an undrafted free agent from the University of Houston who spent last season on the Broncos' injured reserve list.
Thomas tore his right triceps in Sunday's win over the St. Louis Rams.
BURRESS GETS TWO YEARS: Plaxico Burress apologized to his family and tearfully kissed his pregnant wife and young son goodbye before he was led away to prison to begin serving a two-year sentence on a weapons charge.
COWBOYS: dallas signed running back Chauncey Washington to the practice squad, two days after starter Marion Barber got hurt. Washington played in six games for the Jaguars in 2008 as a rookie seventh-round pick out of USC. He had four carries for 9 yards and one catch for 9 yards.
COWBOYS STADIUM: Dallas is discussing a limit on standing-room ticket sales after some tense moments with the biggest NFL regular-season crowd.
Team spokesman Brett Daniels said that some of the 30,000 people who bought $29 Party Pass tickets were held back while authorities tried to manage crowd dispersal Sunday.
BILLS: Buffalo signed rookie tackle Jamon Meredith off Green Bay's practice squad to bolster their banged-up offensive line. Meredith was drafted out of South Carolina in the fifth round by the Packers, but failed to make Green Bay's roster. Also, Buffalo placed starting right tackle Brad Butler on injured reserve.
PATRIOTS: New England obtained linebacker Prescott Burgess from the Ravens for a conditional seventh-round draft pick. Burgess was used primarily by the Ravens on special teams this season.
BUCCANEERS: safety Jermaine Phillips will miss the remainder of the season with a broken left thumb. He was hurt in Sunday's 33-20 loss to the Bills.
