RALEIGH (AP) — Hanesbrands Inc. is using a Mount Everest climbing expedition to test and showcase the company's advances in high-tech apparel.

Officials for the Winston-Salem-based company plan to announce the expedition Wednesday morning at North Carolina State University's College of Textiles. Mountaineer and motivational speaker Jamie Clarke will use the gear during a training climb next month at Mount Pumori in Nepal before an Everest summit bid in the spring.

Hanesbrands' research-and-development department began working with Clarke last year to develop the gear as part of the Champion and Duofold brands. The company plans to unveil a unique summit suit for Clarke early next year.

I guess when you sell all your production and lay off close to 200 people you can afford fancy promotions like this. Atleast Everest is closer to China where all this stuff is coming from now.

An expedition to the moon wouldnt get me to buy Hanes again.
