Sanctuary Deliverance Church will become the latest Kids Cafe site on Wednesday.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina has teamed up with the Summit Avenue church and other partners to host children from the Boys and Girls Club of Claremont Homes. The partnership provides children at risk of hunger with an evening meal, tutoring and activities three nights a week throughout the year.

This is the 11th Kids Cafe opened by the food bank, which serves Guilford County — along with 17 other counties — from Boone to Burlington. This is also the fourth opening of a Guilford County Kids Cafe. Nationwide, there are more than 1,300 sites.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony including Mayor Yvonne Johnson and Guilford County Schools Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green is planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 3631 Summit Ave.

Information: Erin Foster, 784-5770, or efoster@secondharvest.org.

Leadership Greensboro Seniors along with volunteers from area congregations will collect food for the Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Bank at area grocery stores today.

“This food drive is critical in order to resupply our food inventory, which was significantly affected by a very busy summer serving thousands of needy families suffering from our economic hurricane,” says Mike Aiken, the nonprofit’s executive director.
