North Carolina will open its 2010 football season against LSU in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
The game will be played Sept. 4 in the Georgia Dome andwill be televised nationally by ESPN.
This will be the seventh meeting between LSU and North Carolina with the Tigers holding a 5-1 advantage. The two teams have not met since 1986. Carolina’s lone win in the series was a 34-7 decision in the first meeting in 1948.
To accommodate the LSU game, next year’s game against William & Mary, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 4, has been moved to Oct. 30.
In addition, North Carolina and South Carolina have mutually agreed to move next season’s game, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 18 in Columbia, to the opening Thursday night (Aug. 29) of the 2013 season. That game also will betelevised by ESPN.
GEORGIA TECH-MIAMI: Miami has faced 152 programs in its history. Georgia Tech is close to doing something only seven of those schools have managed against the Hurricanes.
When the Yellow Jackets visit Miami tonight, Georgia Tech will be looking to beat the Canes for the fifth straight time.
According to records in the Miami football media guide, Notre Dame won 11 straight against the Hurricanes from 1967-80. Alabama won 10 straight (1962-79) and three schools — Florida State (1963-72), Florida (1971-77) and LSU (1946-66) — have won seven in a row. Kentucky also beat Miami five times in a row from 1948 through 1959.
