This weekend is the final chance for local residents to view and shop the Triad’s first consignment-and-salvage-designed show house.

Chic Chateau is located just off New Garden Road in a brand new home.

“Almost everything in here is consignment, salvaged or from a thrift store,” event organizer Michele van Gobes said.

And it’s all for sale, she added.

From the re-purposed drapes, to the re-upholstered furniture, to the art hanging on the walls — everything must go and it is all for four good causes.

“All of the net proceeds will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, Habitat for Humanity, the Barnabas Network and Housing Greensboro,” van Gobes said.

She, along with a cadre of volunteers from local businesses, is working to raise funds to give these groups some reprieve.

“Right now, needs are up and giving is down,” van Gobes said.

Last weekend, there were more than 800 visitors to the house. With admissions costs and the sale of some of the items, more than $19,000 was raised.

“This is our first year, and we’re not sure what we can generate,” she said.

“But we hope we can return some good proceeds to these groups.”

Volunteer Debbie Hayes said the greatest thing about this fund-raiser is anyone can participate.

“Anyone can come in here and feel like they can buy something,” Hayes said. “The prices go from $12 to $1,200.”

In addition to that, non-perishable food donations are also being accepted for the food bank.

According to van Gobes, about 300 pounds of food has been collected.

Though Saturday and Sunday are the last days of the event, van Gobes and Hayes agree that people should still come.

“There is still lots of great stuff that hasn’t been discovered,” van Gobes said.

“And there will be possible price reductions to get everything sold,” Hayes added.
