Jamestown gets more funding for park

Gibson Park, 5217 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, will now open again on Mondays, thanks to Guilford County reinstating the funds it told Jamestown to cut this year.

Jamestown manages the park for the county.

While planning the budget for 2009-10, Jamestown Town Council had to look for ways to cut 5 percent from the park's budget. To do so, the council decided it would have to close the park on Mondays, saving labor costs for part-time staff and other related items.

The park's trails remained open to the public.

Why is the county returning the funds, Council woman Georgia Nixon Roney asked.

Town Manager Kathryn Billings said she wasn't sure, but assumed maybe the county received complaints that the park wasn't open on Mondays.

The council approved a budget amendment Tuesday night adding $8,195 to the 2009-10 budget.
