GREENSBORO — Sales of existing single-family homes in Greensboro declined in August, according to data prepared by Triad MLS Inc. for the Greensboro Regional Realtors Association.
The total dollar volume and average price of a home were also down from July.
A total of 490 units were sold in Greensboro in August, down from 512 units sold in July, according to a news release. Both numbers are below levels from August 2008, when 626 homes were sold.
The average sales price of an existing single-family home fell to $145,164 in August from $164,945 in July. The average sale price in August 2008 was $167,287.
The total dollar volume for all units in August fell to $71,130,000 from $84,452,000 in July. The August 2008 total dollar volume was $104,722,041.
“While the August numbers have decreased from the previous month, this is the first dip we’ve seen this year,” Betty Smith, president of the Greensboro Regional Realtors Association, stated in a news release. “With the first-time home buyer tax credit in effect for closings that happen prior to December 1, we’re optimistic that more and more potential buyers will be taking the first step into homeownership.”
