LEXINGTON — A dog bit a 4-year-old girl Sunday because he was trying to get to a sucker that was in the girl's mouth.

No charges have been filed in the incident, which happened in the 300 block of Spring Drive. The girl, who was not identified, was treated at Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem for bite wounds on her face. Her condition was unavailable Monday.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, the girl had a sucker in her mouth, and the dog jumped on her and knocked her down to get it.

The dog's owner, who is the girl's uncle, injured the dog during the incident. The dog was treated by a veterinarian in Winston-Salem.

The sheriff's office said the dog is current on all of its shots. Its owner, who was not identified, was issued a nuisance order.

The sheriff's office did not give the condition of the dog or its breed on Monday.
