CHARLOTTE (AP) — Police have a suspect in the death of a pregnant 15-year-old who was shot and killed Monday as she waited at a Charlotte school bus stop.

Police spokesman Rob Tufano said the shooting wasn't random, but he declined to elaborate.

Tiffany Wright was shot in the head and rushed to Carolinas Medical Center, where she later died, he said. She was 32 weeks along in her pregnancy.

Tufano had said the baby was not expected to survive after being delivered alive, but he said later that he didn't know the baby's condition. A telephone message left at the hospital was not immediately returned.

Wright was found by a relative early Monday, Tufano said. The shooting happened before dawn as the teen stood at a bus stop in north Charlotte.

A relative had just walked Wright to the bus stop and gone back home, he said. The relative heard at least three gunshots and went outside to find Wright in the street.

The girl attended Hawthorne High School, a school with a special program for pregnant teens. Grief counselors were available for students there Monday morning, said Cynthia Robbins, a spokeswoman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
