Rockingham County weekend: Festival to fill streets of Mayodan

Wednesday, September 9, 2009
(Updated 3:43 pm)

Only a couple of more weeks until the fall season officially arrives. But it will feel like fall this weekend with the kick off of our annual festivals.

Mayodan Homecoming Festival is Saturday on the downtown streets of Mayodan. The Mayodan Preservation League invites the community to enjoy the event, which promises to entertain you from morning til night. Kicking off the festival will be the marching band and chorus from McMichael High School, along with the ROTC presenting colors. A proud beginning to a day of fun and music. Spend the day and enjoy all that Mayodan has to offer our community.

On Saturday afternoon at Market Square in Reidsville, the city presents “Arts on the Square,” an array of artists, craftsmen and wineries showing off their stuff. Stroll through the Market and visit the booths as you enjoy jazz and blues music. And bring the kids and get their creative juices flowing as they paint or create jewelry at the “ArtiFair.”

And if you know someone who is unemployed or perhaps you are, head over to First Baptist Church on Main Street in Reidsville and take advantage of “Operation: Faith, Hope and Love,” a day of service for the unemployed of Rockingham County. Services for haircuts, manicures, dental and health screenings, workshops, food, clothing, school supplies and more will be available.
