(Updated 6:52 am)

Area churches are sponsoring an interdenominational adult choir for anyone interested in sharing a love of music with the community.

The choir will sing a variety of sacred and secular music, including hymn favorites, Broadway selections, classical and patriotic numbers. It will be sponsored by First Presbyterian, Christ United Methodist, First Baptist and West Market Street United Methodist churches.

Rehearsals are from 11 a.m. to noon Thursdays, Sept. 24 through Nov. 12, at Christ UMC, 410 N. Holden Road. Community performances will be scheduled for the week of Nov. 12.

Depending on interest, the choir may continue after a break for the holidays. For more information, contact Cathy West at Christ UMC at 299-1571 or cwest@christ greensboro.org.

Noted Baptist theologian Randall Lolley will give the Sunday message at First Baptist Church tomorrow as part of the congregation’s homecoming festivities. Those festivities also will include the burying of a time capsule and the planting of a tree in honor of the youth.

Lolley, the only living former pastor of the Friendly Avenue church, has been an active participant in many phases of Baptist life over the past five decades. He is also the former president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

A 7 p.m. performance of “Celebrate Life,” the quintessential 1970s youth musical based on the life of Christ, will be accompanied by a full orchestra led by Carl “Chip” Stam, an associate professor in the School of Church Music and Worship at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Those who listen to Dave Ramsey’s radio broadcasts or have read his book “Total Money Makeover” know that hundreds of thousands of people say that they have changed their lives dramatically using Ramsey’s plan for financial fitness.

Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church wants to give you a front row seat to a video simulcast of a program by Ramsey. The event is from

1-6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the church at 2600 Pisgah Church Road.

People are hurting and struggling with debt, and the church wants to be part of the solution, said parish associate Greg Light, one of the organizers. The church is the only site in Guilford County offering the simulcast, which focuses on eliminating debt and credit cards, budgeting, avoiding bankruptcy, and building financial peace.

Mount Pisgah also is among dozens of local churches offering Ramsey’s 13-week

Financial Peace University.

The ticket price for the Sept. 19 event, which includes a workbook, is $22.50 if purchased through the church or $25 if purchased at daveramsey.com.

Contact the church at 288-3321.
